Huntington North senior Will Hotchkiss signed with Huntington University on Tuesday to continue his academic and basketball careersHuntington North senior Will Hotchkiss put pen to paper on Tuesday afternoon, making his college decision official by signing with Huntington University to continue his academic and basketball careers with the Foresters.

Hotchkiss will become a third-generation Forester, as his family has deep roots at Huntington University, including his father, Jamie, who also played basketball for the Foresters.

“I wanted to stay close and I have a history at Huntington,” Hotchkiss said at the signing. “My parents went there and my grandparents went there. My dad coached for four years there, so I’ve been a part of that for a long time, going to practices and being around the players and stuff.”

Hotchkiss became a go-to player for the Vikes during his junior and senior seasons, starting both years and being a heavily relied-upon big man in the paint at both ends of the floor.

In 55 appearances throughout his career with Huntington North, Hotchkiss totaled 425 points, 135 rebounds, 55 assists, 35 steals and eight blocks in 1,063 minutes of action, highlighted by a senior season that saw career highs of 22 games, 244 points, 37 assists, 20 steals, seven blocks and 525 minutes of action to go along with 56 rebounds. Of note, Hotchkiss poured in 22 points against Carroll on Feb. 22, 2022.

Hotchkiss’s play earned him Northeast 8 Conference All-Conference Second Team honors as a senior and All-Conference Honorable Mention honors as a junior.

Huntington North boys basketball head coach Craig Teagle knows Hotchkiss has the tools needed to succeed at the next level and will miss Hotchkiss’s contributions to the Vikings.

“Will is an outstanding young man who was committed to our basketball program and very coachable,” Teagle said. “He was our second-leading scorer on the season and a terrific free throw shooter. Will developed his game so that he could be an inside-outside offensive threat for our team. He also could defend multiple positions for us. Our team will miss having him in the locker room and on the floor. He was definitely a glue guy for our team and program.”

Hotchkiss also excelled in the classroom at Huntington North, earning scholar-athlete status.

Hotchkiss plans to study business while at Huntington.
