Huntington North High School students who are enrolled in Early Childhood Education, Education Professions, and Human and Social Services courses will be volunteering their time to help younger students at the Boys and Girls Club during our next eLearning Day (Monday, January 21, 2019). On a normal school day, these students attend class for one period, then leave the high school to participate in our HCCSC schools, area preschools, and social service agencies.
With the possibility of more than 150 children attending the Boys and Girls Club, Mrs. Dayna Stump and Mrs. Jan Hildebrand realized the need for additional instructional assistance and supervision, and put a plan into action. There will be approximately 31 Junior and Senior students volunteering to help during the next eLearning Day. They will be signing up for a 2-hour time slot that will work best with their schedule, and this counts as part of their eLearning requirement for their classes.
Mrs. Stump and Mrs. Hildebrand believe that, “Since the Education Professions Cadet teachers are in their classrooms throughout the year, they will already be familiar with the names and faces of some of these students. Hopefully, that pre-established rapport will be an emotional support as well as an academic support. Our students are very excited for the opportunity to offer their service at the Boys and Girls Club on the next eLearning Day. They are happy about the opportunity to assist younger students.”
