Core Values Honorees at January 8 Board Meeting
HCCSC Board Members start the new year by celebrating wonderful accomplishments from alumni, staff and students at the January 8 regular scheduled board meeting. Athletics and academics brought light to the range of talented individuals that represent HCCSC.

Lisa Winter (Finn) was honored at the board meeting in celebration of being inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.  Lisa is no stranger to receiving high honor accolades as her successes started very early in her life in basketball and beyond.

Lisa earned the title of IHSAA Most Valuable Player during her junior year alongside the title of State Champions in 1995.  Then in 1996 Lisa was named Indiana Miss Basketball in her senior year.  In her return to the sport, Lisa earned a spot on the 2021 Indiana Basketball Silver Anniversary Team.  Lisa will celebrate her induction into the Indiana Basketball Women's Awards Induction Ceremony on Saturday April, 27th.

Bailey Benefiel was honored for her promotion from Varsity Softball Assistant to Varsity Softball Head Coach at Huntington North.  Bailey advances into this new role with great experience and success as a player and coach.  Coach Benefiel was on First Team All-State in 2013 and 2014 as well as the Indiana All-Star Team in 2014 at Pendleton Heights, followed by earning a spot as a NJCAA All-American in 2015.  Coach Benefiel has coached at the collegiate level as well!  "I am truly honored and excited in being named the Head Coach for Varsity Softball.  We have over half of our Varsity Team coming back this year and I look forward to what we will accomplish this year and beyond." states Benefiel.

In academia, students who are wanting to continue their education actively seek out scholarship and grant opportunities.  Scholarships can vary in value and qualification and very few, if any, are more highly regarded than the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.  'The Lilly' is a full-ride scholarship that is awarded to one student a year.  The scholarship application is quite rigorous and includes a strenuous interview process to show proof of community involvement, academic achievement, character, leadership.

“The scholarship committee is pleased to award this year’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship to Ella Hall.  Ella is an academic standout at Huntington North HS and maintains excellent grades while also balancing various extracurricular and volunteer activities. She embodies hard work, and her passion for continuing her education at an Indiana college or university to pursue a career in legal journalism is impressive." - Community Foundation Board Member Dr. Janelle Maxwell Pflieger. It is with much joy to congratulate Ella in truly earning all the value that 'The Lilly' offers and we all look forward to see you thrive in college and beyond!
Every year, students have the opportunity to get involved in varying competitions in finding ways to promote a healthy drug-free lifestyle. Select Riverview Middle School students are being recognized for their impressive submissions in the annual Red Ribbon Contest. The Red Ribbon coalition asks students to create content related to an annual theme. Zoey Gatchel earned first place in her illustration. Holly Price, Alexis Morris, and Jackson Blair earned first, second and third respectively for their essay submissions. Zoe Richard and Mallory Mattox earned first place for their original song and video submission.
Huntington North Band Students were honored tonight for qualifying in highly regarded ensembles. Andrew Crider, Owen Follis, Morgan Garner, Lucas Lehman, Cadence Reed, Caleb Skiles and Carter Smith all earned positions in the Three Rivers Honors Band. These select students performed at Auer Performance Hall at Purdue University Fort Wayne on December 2nd.
Erica Brown, Douglas Cannizzaro, Andrew Crider, Owen Follis, and Carter Smith and Brianna Thomas qualified for the The Indiana Music Education Association (IMEA) All-State Honor Concert Band and are set to perform at The Embassy Theater in Fort Wayne this January 11th through 13th. We are blessed to have such wonderful talent within our school corporation whether it be from past students, or current educators and students! We are thankful that our students share their passions and interest through multiple disciplines and we look forward to see them thrive as they continue through school and beyond. Congratulations to all Core Values recipients!
