February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. CTE has been in the national news lately, due to a focus on federal funding for these programs, and the new graduation pathways that were passed into law by the Indiana state legislature last spring. At Huntington North High School, we are very fortunate to offer foundation classes for all of the state identified career pathways.
We offer a unique opportunity for students to participate in 12 half-day career preparation programs that allow students to explore their career interests while still in high school, and simultaneously earn college credit when available. All of these programs also offer industry certifications or state licensing, with applicable testing embedded in the classes.
HNHS offers CTE half-day programs in:
- Automotive*
- Certified Nurse Aide*
- Cosmetology‡
- Criminal Justice*
- Early Childhood Education†
- Education Professions†
- Emergency Medical Technician*
- Human and Social Services†
- Internship*
- Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education†
- Precision Machining*
- Welding*
HNHS also partners with Heartland Career Center to give students access to additional programs that we don’t have locally. The most popular programs at Heartland for our HNHS students this year are Culinary Arts, Graphic Design, Computer Networking, Construction, and Automotive Collision Repair.
CTE programs offer our students numerous opportunities to explore their individual interests. Whether students are college bound or heading directly into the workforce after graduation, we want them to be as prepared as possible.
