Sarah Dearduff (center left) and Ms. Boone (center right) with JAG representativesHuntington North High School student, Sarah Dearduff, has been selected to attend the JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) in Washington D.C. To be eligible for this all-expenses paid trip, Sarah had to submit a two page essay on leadership and how this conference would help her during her high school career and beyond. Out of all of the JAG schools in our region, Sarah’s paper stood out the most.

“I have been so blessed to be a part of JAG. Before, I was a very quiet, soft-spoken person. I had never really had to introduce myself in a professional manner before. After time and time again of introducing myself and being asked questions by our speakers, I became more confident in my speaking abilities. In fact, I placed 3rd at the JAG Indiana competition for my presentation on the career umbrella of mortuary sciences.

Being awarded this opportunity to attend NSLA to further develop my leadership skills, I will absolutely put what I learn to good use. I will make a lesson play that shows my peers what I have gained from the experience and describe good leadership qualities, as well as how to become a great leader. All it really takes is passion, bravery, and persistence.

I have the drive and passion to be a strong leader. I want to make the world a better place overall. I want to inspire people and make a difference," explained Sarah.

Sarah is a great example of the HCCSC Core Value of Leadership. “The entire Huntington North community is extremely proud of Sarah. She has worked hard to represent Huntington North in this way, and I am glad that this opportunity has presented itself to her. Ms. Boone and the JAG program at HNHS create a great network for our students,” commented Principal Russ Degitz.
