Superintendent John TroutFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Huntington, IN —
November 14, 2025

Dear HCCS School Community,

Over the past several months, I have come to understand that I no longer have the physical capacity to work at the level I have grown accustomed to since becoming a superintendent.

The side effects from my cancer treatments in 2024 have gradually made it more difficult to sustain the same pace and workload that I once did. Therefore, I am officially announcing my retirement as Superintendent of Huntington County Community Schools.

I remain cancer-free and received another clean bill of health this past summer. My hope was to continue serving our district for a few more years, but it has become clear that this is no longer possible.

When I started my teaching career in 1984, I could never have dreamed that I would finish it in Huntington. I began my educational journey at Warren Elementary, attended Salamonie Junior High, and graduated from Huntington North High School in 1980. The teachers and staff who guided me as a student inspired me to become an educator, and I have carried their influence with me throughout my career.

I am extremely proud of what has been accomplished during my time as Superintendent of HCCS, and I am grateful for the dedication and commitment of the Board of School Trustees, the outstanding staff, and the unwavering support of our community. Together we have made meaningful progress for our students and schools, and I consider it a privilege to have served alongside you.

I look forward to supporting the continued success of HCCS. My last day in the office will be Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

With sincere gratitude.
John Trout
