Huntington, IN - The Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees took a moment during its November 25, 2024, meeting to highlight an exceptional student whose accomplishments exemplify the district’s core values.

Director of Elementary Education Jay Peters introduced the segment by emphasizing the importance of recognizing individuals and groups who demonstrate HCCSC’s commitment to high expectations, high achievement, and accountability.

The spotlight of the evening was on Huntington North High School’s cross country standout, Alice Friesen. On November 2, Alice competed in the 44th Annual Girls State Cross Country Meet at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. Against the top runners in the state, she secured an impressive 9th-place finish in the Women’s Individual 5K. Alice completed the race in 17 minutes and 57.2 seconds, averaging a remarkable mile pace of 5 minutes and 46.7 seconds.

This achievement adds to an already stellar year for Alice, marking her second consecutive top-10 finish at the state championship. Peters praised Alice’s drive and commitment, noting that her hard work and determination inspire not only her teammates but also the entire school community.

The board expressed their pride and admiration, congratulating Alice on her extraordinary performance. Her achievements serve as a powerful example of how HCCSC students continue to excel and represent the district with distinction.
