Honoring Excellence: Celebrating HCCS Core Value Honorees at the April 28 Board Meeting
Huntington, IN - Huntington County Community Schools proudly recognized three outstanding Core Value honorees during the April 28, 2025 Board of School Trustees meeting.
Lane Canvin, an eighth grader at Crestview Middle School, captured his third consecutive Huntington County Spelling Bee Championship after ten intense rounds of competition. Lane has shown incredible dedication to academics, winning the school-wide spelling bee four years in a row and securing the county title three consecutive years — a truly impressive accomplishment.
Athletically, Crestview Middle School's Junior Vikes Swim Team made waves by winning the Northeast 8 Middle School Conference Championship.
Standout performances included:

Violet Kowalski, first place in the 100 Individual Medley and 50 Butterfly;

Isaac Kowalski, first place in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke;

Micah Smith, first place in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle;

Lane Canvin, first place in the 50 Butterfly;

And the relay team of Isaac Kowalski, Dawson Husband, Lane Canvin, and Micah Smith, winning both the 200 Medley Relay and the 300 Freestyle Relay.
Finally, Mrs. Jeanne Paff, music teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School, was honored as the 2025 Fort Wayne Philharmonic Music Educator of the Year. Transitioning into her new role this school year, Mrs. Paff has energized the music program with enthusiasm and passion. Her classroom fosters excitement and a love for learning through music, inspiring students every day and making a lasting impact on the school community.
