Roanoke Claims Victory at County M.A.T.H. Bowl
Roanoke, IN - Huntington County Community Schools' elementary mathematicians put their skills to the test last Tuesday evening at the 29th annual M.A.T.H. Bowl Competition hosted by Roanoke Elementary School. The competition, held on April 15, 2025, brought together young math enthusiasts from all six HCCS elementary schools alongside visiting teams from Northview Elementary School (Gas City) and Lafayette Meadows Elementary School (Fort Wayne).
Roanoke Elementary School emerged victorious in the Red Class division with an impressive 20 points, showcasing the mathematical prowess of their fourth and fifth-grade competitors. Salamonie Elementary secured second place with 16 points, while Andrews Elementary rounded out the top three with 15 points.
The M.A.T.H. (Math Academic Teams for Hoosiers) Bowl is a team-based competition where groups of up to 20 students participate, with three team members working together during each of the four rounds to answer eight questions. The collaborative nature of the event encourages teamwork and mathematical reasoning skills.
Final Results for Huntington County Schools (Red Class):
- Roanoke Elementary School: 20 points
- Salamonie Elementary School: 16 points
- Andrews Elementary School: 15 points
- Horace Mann Elementary School: 13 points
- Flint Springs Elementary School: 13 points (lost tiebreaker to Horace Mann)
- Lincoln Elementary School: 8 points
In the Orange Class competition, Northview Elementary School from Gas City took first place with 16 points, while Lafayette Meadows of Fort Wayne earned second place with 11 points.
The annual competition is administered by the Indiana Association of School Principals, Department of Student Programs, with support from Purdue University. The event aims to emphasize the importance of mathematics education and provide students with an opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive yet supportive environment.
Teams with the highest scores in each of the five enrollment classifications statewide receive recognition, with results posted on the IASP website the following day. This year's statewide results were available by 3 p.m. on April 16, 2025.
