Huntington County Community Schools Welcomes New School Resource Officer

Huntington County Community Schools Welcomes New School Resource Officer
Deputy Austin Bullock and Sheriff Chris Newton

Huntington, IN - At the December 16th Public School Board Meeting, Huntington County Community Schools (HCCS) proudly introduced Austin Bullock as its newest School Resource Officer (SRO). Sheriff Chris Newton presented Bullock to the board, highlighting his experience and dedication to safety. Bullock, a Huntington North graduate, will begin his new role on January 5, 2025, stationed at Huntington North High School and the Learning Center.

Superintendent John Trout acknowledged the collaborative effort among law enforcement, local government, and the school board to enhance school safety over the past three years. With the addition of Bullock, HCCS now has four SROs strategically placed throughout the district to ensure a secure learning environment for students and staff.

Sheriff Newton praised Bullock’s qualifications, including his leadership roles as a drug task force member and firearms instructor. "Austin's strong moral character and dedication make him an excellent fit for this role," Newton said.

Bullock expressed gratitude, stating, “It’s an honor to return to the schools I once walked as a student. I look forward to serving this community and ensuring the safety of our students and staff.”

The updated SRO assignments include:

  • Officer Ben Whitman: Huntington North High School and Learning Center
  • Officer Daniel Lowes: Riverview Middle School, supporting Horace Mann, Lincoln, and Salamonie
  • Deputy Don Whitney: Crestview Middle School, supporting Andrews, Flint Springs, and Roanoke
  • Deputy Austin Bullock: Huntington North High School and Learning Center
  • Special Deputy Terry Stoffel: Learning Center support

HCCSC remains committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment through these partnerships and ongoing security enhancements.

Every Student. Every Day.
