The Huntington North High School Class of 1972 recently celebrated its 50th reunion on Sept. 10 with 287 attendants. The reunion held many events such as the HNHS Varsity Singers and Viking Volume serving guests and a select auction selling items donated from local businesses to the passed graduates.

A committee consisting of Patt (Updike) Brown, Jeff Spickelmier, Lynette (Sprinkle) Rodgers, Dave Roth and Joe Wiley planned the auction, which included collecting and accepting donated items, auctioning the items off to their former classmates and figuring out what to do with the money they raised.

Some items that were donated for the auction were a getaway weekend at a cottage on a lake, a quilt made by a former teacher and a wooden porch swing. The class raised $6,300 during the auction and brought the money together to buy landscaping materials, outside furniture and a pergola for the Huntington County Community Learning Center.

“The Class of 1972 enjoyed giving back to the school they graduated from with so many students (some being grandkids of ours) helping and participating,” wrote a representative from the class.

The pergola was assembled by HNHS construction teacher Dave Harvey’s buildings trades class and will be landscaped in the spring by agriculture teacher Emily Brite’s landscaping class.

“This donation will be used to create an outdoor learning space that will be used by both high school and adult learners, as well as our staff,” said Career and Technical Education Director Tiffanney Drummond. “The Learning Center appreciates the generosity of the Class of 1972!”
