Huntington North senior Gabe Castillo signed with the University of Saint Francis to continue his academic and soccer careersHuntington North High School senior Gabe Castillo put pen to paper on Wednesday, making his college choice official to continue his academic and soccer careers at the University of Saint Francis in Ft. Wayne.

A three-year varsity player for the Vikings, Castillo was a valuable contributor for his squad.

Castillo potted a total of 17 goals throughout his Huntington North career to go along with four career assists. Eight of his tallies came as a senior en route to the Vikings winning the Northeast 8 Conference (NE8) crown.

“Gabe’s strength as a soccer player is his speed as a forward and his ability to score with his left foot,” said former Huntington North boys soccer head coach Steve Saddington. “He has a rocket shot and can score from distance. This was evident his junior year against Warsaw, when he outran his opponent after receiving a through ball and put the ball past the Warsaw goalkeeper in the back of the net.”

Castillo’s performance on the field earned him NE8 All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades during his junior and senior seasons.

Castillo continues the pipeline of former Viking soccer players continuing their playing careers with the Cougars, as former Huntington North standouts Tyler Christle and Aidan Hosler both currently play for the Saint Francis squad, while fellow Huntington North senior Ashton Hosler has also committed to play for Saint Francis this upcoming fall.

In the classroom, Castillo plans to study early childhood education.
