Trout had been serving in the role on an interim basis since January prior to Monday’s unanimous decision to promote him to the full-time role.

“We are excited to welcome John to our leadership team at HCCSC,” said Superintendent Chad Daugherty. “He brings with him over a decade of experience as a superintendent and was a building principal at both the elementary and middle school levels. A person with his knowledge and expertise will have a positive impact on the district. Also, John and his family have been lifelong residents of Huntington County, where his two daughters graduated from Huntington North High School, so he knows our community and district well.”

Trout, a 1980 graduate of Huntington North, completed his undergrad studies in secondary education at Taylor University in 1984 before earning a master’s degree in school administration from IPFW in 1989 and an educational specialist degree from Ball State University in 2006.

Trout began his career in education as a teacher at Etna-Troy Township School in Columbia City for seven years before spending 17 years as a building principal within Whitley County Consolidated Schools. Trout went on to serve as the superintendent of the Madison-Grant United School Corporation for eight years and Concord Community Schools for four years. Outside of education, Trout also served as the executive pastor at First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington for two years.

“HCCSC has always been a special place for me and my family,” Trout said. “I am a lifelong resident of Huntington County, and a proud graduate of Huntington North High School (along with my two daughters, Audrey and Allyson). I am looking forward to working with the entire school community in providing the best possible education for the students at HCCSC!”
