Crestview Middle School Virtual Learning

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like to share some information with you about some of the basics of the Virtual Option that you have chosen for your child.  As you know, this option is brand-new to all of us, so we are asking for your patience and understanding as we attempt to create a program that mirrors the learning that is happening for our brick and mortar students.  Below you will find the basics of the plan plus some of our expectations for virtual learners.  We will be communicating more information to you very soon, but we wanted to give you an idea of what this will look like for your child.  Again, our goal is that the Virtual Option student receives an education that reflects the same one that our "on-site” students are receiving.

Like a brick and mortar student, our virtual students will have a class schedule that they are expected to attend during the day.  This means that our virtual student’s day will begin at 7:35 and end at 2:35.  During this time, they will receive ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies lessons (8th graders will also take PCC - Preparing for College and Careers, which is a required class).  They will be given times for breaks and to eat lunch.  They will also be given office hours or “Cougar Advisory” where a staff will be available to assist them with their lessons.  During their virtual lesson, a student will be expected to be online and “live” with their teacher.  The teacher will be online with their class while instructing from their empty classroom.  Students will be able to see and hear their teacher, and the class will be able to interact with each other.  The teacher will teach the same lesson to the virtual students as the one they will teach to their on-site students.  One way to think about this is that the teacher is not teaching to students sitting across the room, but perhaps now, they are sitting across town.  The teacher and student can still see and hear each other - they can still interact and communicate, but they are simply not in the same room.  So to summarize, we want to deliver an education that mirrors what is happening in school, your student will be expected to attend school online/live from 7:35-2:35 just like our brick and mortar students (with breaks and work time), and support will be offered to students during our Cougar Advisory period.

Other items to share with you are listed below:

Again, this is new to all of us, so please be patient with us, and likewise, we will be patient and show grace to your students.  We will forge this new path together to give our students the best education possible under these circumstances.  Please know that more information will be shared with you, but we wanted to offer some understanding of what the Virtual Option will look like, so if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to communicate with us.

Sincerely,

 Charles Werth
