Virtual Learning Option

HCCSC ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

 June 19, 2020

The desire of HCCSC is to return to school as normal (traditional) on August 5, 2020 with enhanced safety and cleaning procedures.  While we are in the business of educating, our first priority is the safety of our students and our employees. Be assured, we have been working diligently on our 2020 - 2021 Re-entry Plan. Due to all the factors and information needed to plan as COVID-19 issues unfold, the comprehensive Re-entry Plan will be released on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

Superintendent Chad Daugherty explains, “We have been working diligently on our Re-entry Plan for the 2020-2021 school year. As part of our plan, we surveyed the community and the input that we received was greatly appreciated.  90% of our parents want their child to return to school, and 10% of our parents would like to explore a virtual option due to concerns of COVID-19.  Our mission is to educate all students to high standards with precision and personalization.  We believe we will remain true to our mission and that we have two good options for our families to consider for their children.”

We are currently working on two learning options:

Enhanced Traditional Plan: We would continue instruction as normal with enhanced safety precautions in place such as social distancing, face coverings (recommended, but not required), grouping students, increased frequency of cleaning of high touch areas, limited visitation to campuses, etc.

Virtual Learning Option: Students would participate in the learning of new material, continued standard pacing, interactive lessons, graded assignments, and assessments.

The K-12 Virtual Learning Option for students will be an online, non-traditional, virtual learning opportunity.  The virtual option is available for current and incoming HCCSC students, as well as students who reside outside of Huntington County.

The Virtual Learning Option will benefit students who prefer a flexible schedule, who learn better in a virtual classroom, or who need this type of program for personal or family health reasons.

Utilizing the virtual learning option, instruction will be provided by highly qualified HCCSC teachers that will create lessons that help each student reach his or her full potential.  Students will be engaged, inspired, and challenged through innovative lessons and activities, and participate in regular assessments to measure academic growth.
